This is a knowledge and skills course that covers the theoretical foundations of CBT (the ‘first’ and ‘second’ waves) and how they translate into ways of supporting someone to cope better with their experiences and/or to change their behaviours. We will examine the key features of a cognitive behavioural approach to explaining behaviour and explore the application of these explanations in a range of contexts (such as personal distress; substance use; parenting; working with multiple and complex needs).
